Player Profile: 2019 Aaliyah Hampton

After a full summer on the Kentucky Jr. All-Star team and playing travel ball for Kentucky Premier, Christian County's Aaliyah Hampton is primed for a standout senior season. After losing their leading scorer to graduation, the Lady Colonels will look to continue their winning ways by relying on Hampton's scoring ability and senior leadership.

Hampton has been a staple of Christian County's Girls' Basketball program since 8th grade. During the 2014-15 season, she averaged 9.1 points and saw action in 17 of 24 games. As time progressed, she continued to play a greater role for the Lady Colonels, upping her scoring averages to 14.0, 14.7, and 13.9 points per game. Even more impressive, she has become a more efficient scorer with each year; just last season she made 51.4% of her field goal attempts. This efficiency is in large part due to her playing style. "I am more [of] a get to the basket and mak[e] layups [type of player]. I love taking charges and playing defense."

Hampton's passion for the game has drawn interest from Pikeville, Bethel, and Berea. When looking for a place to play collegiately, Hampton says, "[I'm] looking for a college that makes me feel like I am at home, pushes me to be great, [and has] players who work hard." Academically, she is looking to major in Business and Accounting. When thinking about the next chapter of her basketball career, Hampton says she is most looking forward to "the competition [and the] good feeling of playing and winning with girls and coaches that can turn into family."
