Player Profile: 2019 Ivy Turner

Senior Ivy Turner has earned the reputation of being a quiet but deadly force. Last season she led her Danville squad to a .500 record while averaging 24.1 points per game. While known to be a prolific scorer, this year her role will include more than racking up points. "I have [to be] more vocal since I have to lead my team…[it's] something that I have been trying to improve [upon]." In order to push her team to a 45th District championship, Turner has had to step out of her shell to become the leader her young team will need.

Located just 37 miles south of Lexington, Danville has reaped the benefits of having Turner in its girls' basketball program. She has been part of 68 wins, dating back to her time as an eighth grader. Even then she was a key piece to their success, checking in for all 27 of the team's games and averaging 9.1 points per game. Flash forward three years and Turner has taken her place among the great scorers in the state, ranking 11th during the 2017-18 season in top scoring averages. By pushing the ball in transition and becoming a strong driver, Turner has established herself as an all-around point guard. This summer she completed her playing career with Team Slink, headed by talent evaluator John McGraw. Her team earned a runner-up finish at the Insider Exposure Memorial Day Classic in Monroe, Louisiana. Turner also notched multiple double-double performances, further establishing her versatility as a show-runner and scorer. According to Turner, "[having] fun and seeing how we grew together as a team…" was the greatest highlight of her travel ball season.

Turner's talent has not gone unnoticed. She currently holds full ride offers from Lindsey Wilson and Anderson University. When thinking about her future college, Turner says "First, I'm looking for a school that would allow me to dive in academically to become the best student [in a social work program]. Secondly, I just want to be the best basketball player I can be, so I want to go somewhere that will push me to greatness. Getting to play on the collegiate level is truly a dream come true. So everything that comes with seeing that dream unfold is what I'm looking forward to." With Turner's work ethic and desire to win, her dream will certainly be a reality.
